Discover and relax
If you’re visiting Curacao for dolphin assisted therapy at CDTC, we highly recommend taking the opportunity to explore the island. Not that you necessarily need to. The center is located at the Curacao Sea Aquarium in the Bapor Kibra area, directly on the Caribbean Sea. Here, you will find many of the things you need to enjoy your stay:
• A long and wide stretch of sandy beach, lined with palm trees
• Various beach clubs for people of all ages (Cabana, Mambo, Hemingway and more)
• Diving, boat trips and other water sports
• The Curacao Sea Aquarium, probably the island’s most popular tourist attraction
• Several good hotels, including the special-needs friendly Dolphin Suites
However, there is much more to experience on Curacao. These are just a few highlights:
Beaches
Being a beach bum is a must on a Caribbean island, and Curacao has plenty of gorgeous beaches to choose from. Some of the most family friendly ones include Mambo, Zanzibar and Blue Bay, which are all relatively close to CDTC, and Porto Mari and Cas Abao in the beautiful Banda Bou area, which is a longer drive but highly worthwhile. Don’t forget your sunscreen!
Diving, snorkeling & other water sports
Curacao’s underwater world is a colorful experience full of tropical fish, corals and the occasional shipwreck. There are plenty of dive centers where you can take lessons or rent equipment. Snorkeling is, of course, a lot simpler, and almost as beautiful. Other excellent options are windsurfing, sailing, wakeboarding, kite surfing, sea kayaking and fishing.
Attractions
Some of the island’s best attractions include the Sea Aquarium, which is right next to CDTC, the Ostrich Farm (the world’s largest outside of Africa with over 600 ostriches) and the historical downtown area, which is on UNESCO’s prestigious World Heritage list. This monumental area is also great for shopping and having a drink or a bite.
Dining & nightlife
Curacao offers an incredible array of fine restaurants that offer everything from local ‘krioyo’ food to Japanese sushi. The nightlife is equally varied. Have a cool cocktail at one of the many hotspots, sing Dutch songs at the karaoke bar or dance to sizzling Cuban salsa.
And so much more…
Curacao is relaxing, but never boring. There is always something to do. What about a jeep safari? A mountain biking trip? A massage at the spa? A round of golf? A concert by an international artist? A visit to the zoo? There is something for everyone.
