Psychomotoric training at CDTC
For the purpose of advanced quality improvement in our therapy center, the team of the Curacao Dolphin Therapy and Research Center Curacao completed training in the area of psychomotorics in the period from 03.01.-21.01.2011. All the therapists successfully completed the course and earned the “add-on qualification psychomotor skills". With this they have acquired the competence to develop, implement, and evaluate bodily and movement oriented contents to the target audience. Thus, the already existing wide range of therapies in CDTC can be additionally enriched with psychomotoric, family-oriented components.
The idea of psychomotorics is based on the concept of relationship; this relationship takes place at the conversational, action and activity level as well as the non-verbal level. The aim of this concept is to have the patients develop a healthy self-concept. Body and movement experiences are an important basis of identity development, the self-concept develops from the experiences that a human has made with his or her physical abilities, actions and experiences.Human development is subjective life history in the context of social environment and it takes place in small steps. This requires a lot of tolerance and patience from social surroundings to respect the personal speed of the person and take them seriously.
With a positive self-concept, we develop joy of activity and creativity. The readiness to act multiplies, and results in a more confident and oriented attitude.
In the way how a human moves and controls themselves, how he communicates and interacts socially with others and his environment, how he develops cognitively and linguistically, as well as on a sensory and non-verbal level, this is how he also develops his personality.
The entire team had great fun in the course and we are pleased to introduce these treatment components to our patients!
